First Quarter Electives
4th-5th Grade Ballet II: Students will learn ballet history and technique. They will apply their knowledge through brief, weekly choreography assignments that are based on a selection of famous story ballets.
3rd-5th Grade Exploring Dance:In this introductory course, students will be introduced to the basic movement principles that pertain to all dance styles. Students will begin to develop strength, coordination, and flexibility.
2nd-3rd Grade Ballet: Students will learn the basics of ballet through technique, improvisation, and choreography. Each week will have a technique and choreography theme based on a famous story ballet.
1st-2nd Grade Creative Dance: Students will investigate their own movement preferences through the dance elements: body, energy, space, and time.
1st Grade Yoga: Students in this course will practice asana (poses) to build strong, flexible bodies and pranayam (breath control) to calm the mind, as well as play games that enable students to deepen this practice.
Second Quarter Electives
4th-5th Grade Modern Dance: Dancers will learn history, technique, improvisation, and choreography from Modern Dancers starting with Isadora Duncan and leading up to present day dancers.
3rd-5th Grade Dance Ensemble: Students will study choreography by immediately immersing themselves in the practice. Students will select their topic, music, costumes, and movement for this elective and will choreograph as a collaborative group.
2nd-3rd Grade Creative Modern: Students will learn about the history and technique of Modern Dance from the perspective of the famous dancers that created it.
1st-2nd Grade Dancing and Playing Around the World: Take a trip around the world without leaving the comforts of the Dance Room. Students will learn map reading skills, cooperative games, and folk dances from all around the globe.
Kindergarten-1st Grade Storytelling Through Dance: Students will use improvisation and choreography to retell stories from their favorite authors as well as stories they have written in collaborative groups.
